I
was born in
beautiful Mendoza (Argentina) in 1978. At the age of 3 I came with my parents to
Israel and stayed in Jerusalem to
this day.
I started playing music at a very early age, I can't even
remember when... however
I do remember that I got my first drumkit at the age of 9. Then i
took druming leassons when I was 11 for more than three years. With 14 i started playing the guitar by
ear.
Being 15 I went to the rubin music academy high school (as a
drummer) - I was so facinated by jazz guitar (after hearing Joe
Pass in a solo concert
during a family visit to Argentina), that I decided to quit drums and start taking
guitar lessons.
My only guitar teacher was steve paskoff, a jazz guitarist from
New York. Just 2 years later I played at the "Red Sea Jazz
Festival" with
the Jazz Quintet from my high school.
At
the army, I served as a guitarist in the military group "Pikud
Merkaz". At the same time, I started playing jazz
with Arnie Lawrence, a virtuoso
saxophonist
and a former music teacher at the new school in New York.
In 2001
Arnie organized a group of 10 young musicians (jewish and arab)
including myself to play at the
"IAJE"(International Association Of Jazz Educators) in
New York. It was a great experience and I took the chance to
stay for one year in New York, where I got admitted at the
renowned Manhatan School of Music.
Back in Jerusalem in 2003 I started studies at "The Rubin Music
Academy", which belongs to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
My main program is
composition, and I am increasingly interested in
folk music: andalusian, maroccan, algerian, turkish and even
others to a lesser extent. Needles to say, I have a deep
personal connection to South American music.
After a long period of not playing drums I recently
re-discovered percussion. I specialized in the arab
"Darbuka" and the brazilian "Pandeiro" and
currently I play percussion in two ensambles. I also play
"Oud" (Arab Guitar), which I learned with Dr. Tayseer
Elias.
I
also play with "The
Music Academy Folk Group", led by the virtuoso accordionist
Emil Aybinder from Moldova and a lecturer at the Academy
and a
Latin/Salsa Band with students from the academy.
Additionally,
I work as arrenger of a military orchestra of 13 pieces.
...
And of course, I have never stopped playing jazz guitar: right now
I am perform regularly at a Jazz Club in downtown Jerusalem with my own quartet
featuring
doubllebass,
drums and alto saxophone.
It
would be great to welcome you there or at any other
concert... and share with you our music.
